The Geopolitical Realities of the 2020 Artsakh War

Historian Vicken Cheterian provides an analysis of the October 2020 war on Artsakh and the instability that plagues the region in its wake. While the ceasefire might have ended the war for the time being, the alliances and ultra-nationalist sentiments that fueled it continue to simmer in the region, making it difficult to find a lasting and peaceful resolution.

Dr. Vicken Cheterian is lecturer in history and international relations at the University of Geneva and at Webster University Geneva. He is the author of War and Peace in the Caucasus, Russia’s Troubled Frontier (2009) and Open Wounds, Armenians, Turks, and a Century of Genocide (2015).
